Wheelie great news!

April 21, 2007

I’m pleased to announce that the Council will be improving its trade waste service in Shipley – starting next week!

Bradford Council 'recycle for your community' messageI revealed the results of my trade waste survey here two weeks ago – showing that only 33% of hospitality businesses in our area recycle.  The Council contacted me yesterday to say that, in response to the survey, free paper recycling will be offered to all business clients in Shipley in the next few days!

It just shows what Shape Shipley can deliver…and what the Green Councillors can’t.  This achievement took two weeks.  The Greens have been in office for 7 years.   To give some perspective again, while things have stood still under Councillor Warnes – a turtle could have walked around the world!

That’s over 24,000 miles at under 4 mph.

Surely it’s time for change.

First, what a useful and user-friendly website – congratulations! As Member of the European Parliament for Yorkshire, I have to be away from my Saltaire home quite a lot, and this will help me keep up with local events until I get back at the end of each week.

Second, on re-cycling: it is high time that Bradford gets its act together, and you chasing them up on trade waste is very useful. I see how many other European cities are well ahead of us on this and what we need is not posturing – it’s dead easy to be verbally green – but good, practical organisation.

    Well done Kevin. Excellent result.

A thriving local democracy relies on active residents like yourself to press the council for positive change, something myself, Martin and Hawarun ourselves do routinely every week.

Councillors can’t do everything by themselves, no matter how good they are, so please keep up the good work.

    Regards,

    Cllr Kevin Warnes
